        I give and bequeath to my wife Syntha Burson during herlife, or during the time she bears my name my land whereon I residetogether with my plantation and farming tools house hold and kitchenfurniture, all of my stock embracing all personal property, horses, cows,hogs, sheep, and credit that is not herein otherwise disposed of.
        To daughter Sarah a certain horned cow and her increasecalled Lil.
        To daughter Julia a certain no horned cow and her increasecalled Fanny. I also, on account of Julia's bad health wish her to have$100.00 in money or other things. She may want to the valuation of$100.00- the cause of these gifts of cattle to the girls is, I have giveof to the rest of the girls cows, or there Equivalent, to the boys Horsesand Saddles and Credit.
        I wish and bequeath to my wife Syntha Burson, as is statedabove, may remain for the time above specified at my wives full control,without any appraisement or administration, during her life if she seemsto manage the affairs of the property without unnecessary expenses andwho seems to be willing to deal fairly on all sides, this I desire to bedone if it be legal and fair for the parties... also to have the use andcontrol of my wagon as above mentioned and at her death or ceasing tobear my name the above bequeathed property to be sole, or divided,amongst the heirs at law as they may think most to there interest.
        I wish Julia to have $100.00 as is above mentioned then herand the rest of the children or there representative, to share and sharealike, also the Twitty tract to be disposed of with the rest if notdisposed of before that time. Executrix: Syntha Burson Executor: GD andJB Burson

Note:   Joseph, Jr. was b. in Bucks Co., PA. He resided in VA in 1751. JosephBurson appears on a list of Freeholder voters polled to determine theColonel of Fairfax County Militia on December 11, 1755. Also, on theMilitia of Fairfax County Roster we find the name of Joseph Burson, atrooper in the Virginia Colonial Militia, March, 1756. He was a Quakerbefore 1768. Joseph received a land grant and moved to the Old 96thDistrict or what was then Berkley Co., South Carolina. A tract of landcontaining one hundred and fifty acres was awarded in 1768. He was aBaptist after 1768 in SC.
After the American Revolution, the Burson men took advantage of the landbounty in Georgia for veterans of the conflict. Joseph received a bountygrant dated September 29, 1784. His sons Jonathan and Isaac receivedPrivateer grants of two hundred acres in Wilkes County, Georgia datedJuly 29, 1785. Joseph owned a land grant of 400 acres in 1794 in BurkeCo., Georgia ( This is listed in grant book EEEE p.808, for Burke Co. forBurson, Jos.)
He appeared on the census in 1794 in Warren Co., Georgia. He is listedw/no slaves, 400 acres of land in Warren Co. on the Ogechee waters--Wadsdon & Parkins tax being 3 shillings 4 3/4 pence. He died Oct. 27,1801 in Warren Co., Georgia.

The Reconstructed 1790 Census of Georgia, Burke County, Page 1

Burke County was created from St. George Parish in 1777. There werethree fires in the Burke County Courthouse resulting in loss of earlyrecords. There are some records prior to 1856. Headright grants BurkeCounty in the years 1790 through1795 lists Jos. Burson.

From Earl Smith's book: The Burson Bunch---
Joseph was a baptist minister. He and Mary had ten children and raisedthree granddaughters. Joseph was a Reverend at the time of his will.---

Following is an accounting of his will in the State of Georgia, WarrenCo.:
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE presents that I, now being weak and low in helthbut in perfect mind and memory, expecting shortly to depart this life andresolved to make this my Will and Testament, First, I recommend my soulinto the hands of the Almighty, who gave it and my body to be buriedDecent and Christian burial.
Whereas, I make this my last Will and Testament that at my decease, thatmy executors first may pay my lawful debts.
SECONDLY, I give and bequeath to my well- beloved Companion, Mary Burson,all my lands, horse, creatures, cattle, sheep, hogs and householdfurniture with my reasonable debts to be given up by my Executors to herown benefit and disposal at my decease; that she may enjoy and possessduring her life.
THIRDLY, that my executors, at her decease, shall pay themselves out ofmy estate for the care and managing and keeping together the estate.
FOURTHLY, that, at her decease, my Executors shall give out of my estateto my eldest son, Jonathan, or his heirs fifty cents, also to my son,Isaac, fifty cents, to daughter Lydia, fifty cents, to daughter Pheoba,fifty cents, to my daughter, Rachel, fifty cents, to my daughter Peggy,fifty cents, to my daughter Polly, fifty cents, and the remainder part ofmy estate to be equally divided between my sons, Joseph and Jesse, and mydaughter, Alyc, and my granddaughters, Polly, Sally, and Nancy, who nowreside with me in my present dwelling house.
NOW, WHEREAS, acknowledging this to be my last Will and Testament, thatevery Will and Testament heretofore made is null and void and of noeffect and as this is written in my own house and in the presence of God,I acknowledge this to be my last Will and Testament this 28th day ofOctober, 1801.

On Feb. 9, 1802 -- Mary Burson and Joseph Burson offered this Will forProbate and was duly proven, and they qualified as Executors.
According to J.D. Willis (jwillis@Camalott.com), he was married to MaryShaw in 1750 in Pa. Mary died in 1811? in Baldwin Co., Georgia.
